DESCRIPTION:YOUR MEMOIRS—YOUR WRITTEN LEGACY The object of this course is to\nget your family/personal stories on paper. Studies have shown that most\nfamily stories fade beyond two generations. Our lives are filled with funny\,\npoignant\, sad\, spiritual\, and meaningful stories. You have stories only you\ncan write. Most of us have wished we could ask about our families\, but\nthere’s no one left to ask. Leave that written legacy for others and save\nthem that frustration. They will thank you for it. There is no instruction\, but\nwe will discuss stories and the process of writing—don’t worry\, it’s painless.\nEach member should expect to write one story each week and read it to the\nclass. Listening to the stories of others frequently sparks memories of our\nown\, which we can add to our list of stories to write. At the end of the\nsemester\, we will produce a class book to which I encourage you to\ncontribute your stories. Need more info? DESCRIPTION:SEW LIKE A PRO Have you always wanted to make your own clothes but didn’t\nknow how\, or maybe you just aren’t satisfied with your level of garment sewing?\nThis course will give you the knowledge to take your “homemade” clothing to\n“handmade and high-end”. It is not a traditional hands-on sewing class but an\nexploration of sewing high-end garments on your own\, including the language of\nsewing\, preparing for projects\, and understanding the fundamentals at every\nlevel so that you have a solid foundation and the best chance of making a\ngarment you will actually want to wear. A beginner-friendly class\, it will also be\ninformative for experienced sewers. By the end of this course\, you will have a\nfirm understanding of sewing machines\, patterns\, tools\, and fabrics. Working on\na project on your own at home is optional. Each class will be around 40 minutes\nof formal class time\, with 1 hour of discussion/show-and-tell/individual projects\nor free sewing time for those students who choose to work on a project. If the\nclass is interested\, we can add basic pattern blocks to the lesson plans. You will\nneed to bring a notebook/sketchbook and a glue stick or tape. DESCRIPTION:YOUR MEMOIRS—YOUR WRITTEN LEGACY The object of this course is to\nget your family/personal stories on paper. Studies have shown that most\nfamily stories fade beyond two generations. Our lives are filled with funny\,\npoignant\, sad\, spiritual\, and meaningful stories. You have stories only you\ncan write. Most of us have wished we could ask about our families\, but\nthere’s no one left to ask. Leave that written legacy for others and save\nthem that frustration. They will thank you for it. There is no instruction\, but\nwe will discuss stories and the process of writing—don’t worry\, it’s painless.\nEach member should expect to write one story each week and read it to the\nclass. Listening to the stories of others frequently sparks memories of our\nown\, which we can add to our list of stories to write. DESCRIPTION:SEW LIKE A PRO Have you always wanted to make your own clothes but didn’t\nknow how\, or maybe you just aren’t satisfied with your level of garment sewing?\nThis course will give you the knowledge to take your “homemade” clothing to\n“handmade and high-end”. It is not a traditional hands-on sewing class but an\nexploration of sewing high-end garments on your own\, including the language of\nsewing\, preparing for projects\, and understanding the fundamentals at every\nlevel so that you have a solid foundation and the best chance of making a\ngarment you will actually want to wear. A beginner-friendly class\, it will also be\ninformative for experienced sewers. By the end of this course\, you will have a\nfirm understanding of sewing machines\, patterns\, tools\, and fabrics. Working on\na project on your own at home is optional. Each class will be around 40 minutes\nof formal class time\, with 1 hour of discussion/show-and-tell/individual projects\nor free sewing time for those students who choose to work on a project. If the\nclass is interested\, we can add basic pattern blocks to the lesson plans. You will\nneed to bring a notebook/sketchbook and a glue stick or tape. Story is how we explain\,\nunderstand and reconcile our values\, our ideas and how we live our lives.\nThrough story we expand our horizons as we learn about the lives and culture of\nothers. Our focus is on the stories we write at home\, read them in our class\, and\nlearn from each other. We occasionally share artifacts from our life stories and\nwrite/talk about their importance to us. We will also touch on tips for writing\nand publishing memoirs. Class members choose which of their stories will be\npublished in our semester book. Don’t let your stories be lost. Limit 15.
