The Church at Highland Park is so excited to be producing shortened versions of Broadway musicals in a four-Sunday series. We will be putting the hymnals aside for just a few weeks while we consider how these shows can connect to our faith. Along with our own performers, we will be bringing in guest performers and musicians. The Highland Park Choir and our HP Youth and Children will also be an integral part of each service!
The schedule is as follows:
August 21: Wicked. We follow the story of a green-skinned witch, Elphaba, who is rejected all her life and is labeled an outcast and “wicked”. Are people born as wicked or do they become that way over time? How can we include others that have been outcasted? Come watch as we perform your favorite numbers from this beloved musical.
August 28: West Side Story. Join us as we go to the West Side of New York City to embark on an adventure following forbidden love as tensions boil over between two rival gangs, the Sharks and the Jets. What divides us? What can bring us together again? Come next week to find out.
September 4: The Fiddler on the Roof. What does honest prayer look like? What role can tradition play in our faith? Follow Tevye as he learns what’s truly important in life. This is a story that follows the whims of love and life as a Jew.
September 11: Disney Sunday. Kids and nostalgic adults are sure to love this week as we sing our favorites from Disney on Broadway. You might hear something from Beauty and the Beast or the Lion King. We encourage kids to come dressed up as their favorite Disney character for this Sunday.
We will have popcorn, playbills, and congregational involvement! We hope you see you there!
