It’s A New Day at Highland Park

March 6, 2020

Dear friends,

It’s a new day at Highland Park.

After months of prayer, discussions and planning that led up to a unanimous vote from Highland Park members on Sunday, March 1st, we’re so excited to share the news: Highland Park Baptist Church has a new name — The Church at Highland Park.

Although we have a new name, we’re not a new church. We have a legacy we’re proud of with a foundation of service laid by generations before us and we’re not only proud to honor that, we feel a deep responsibility to continue the work they started by stewarding a vibrant, growing church in the heart of Austin, which is why our church body acted to make this change.

But a name change is just the beginning of a new day at Highland Park and we want to invite you to join us this Lent at The Church at Highland Park – we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by all of the new you see, including:

  • Significant investments in our youth program, including the addition of a fantastic Interim Minister for Youth & Outreach, Masyn Evans-Clements, and the grand opening of our new Youth Room (foosball is back!)
  • Similar investments in our children’s program, which is as big as it has been in twenty years at Highland Park, thanks in large part to the addition of Abby Byrd as our Children’s Ministry Coordinator and a ramp up in activities, including monthly SWEETT events after church.
  • A new look at worship and education, which include book studies out of the church walls as well as our normal studies, and Worship that is not watered down but that allows all people to think for themselves and relate to God in their own way.

In the coming months you’ll see a new look and feel to everything Highland Park, from social media to the Mirror to the website. We are excited to be a part of this new day at Highland Park and believe God has much work to do through our church in the coming century and beyond. If you have any questions, please let us know.

Sincerely,
Rev. Cheryl Kimble & Rusty Shelton, Church Council Chair
