Where did this year go? In really thinking about 2025, I also was thinking about our country and our world. It holds the potential for a lot of change.

Love for children is simple. It’s their default setting. But they have to learn how to do it well. Love comes naturally, the penchant toward seeing injustice our default setting; the image of God in us. But we learn to shut it down.
What if rose colored glasses just got a bad rap? What if we put them back on every once in a while to remember that we can find joy and wonder anywhere we look if we can change our perspective? What if we bent down and tried to look at the world from a child’s point of view? What would we see? What would we feel? What would we care about?
Perhaps it isn’t the ignorance of world news that brings such sure-footed peace. Perhaps taking a page out of the book of children isn’t so much ignoring the atrocities of the world and turning away our eyes of witness, but remembering our security in the love that surrounds us. Maybe childlike peace is unhindered trust and security in the one who is trustworthy and safe.
Children are our hope for the future. Perhaps where we have failed, they might succeed if we can give them the tools they need now. Perhaps where we have ignored problems, they might confront them. Perhaps where we have made it complex, they can keep it simple.
Being thankful isn’t about life being perfect. Being thankful is recognizing the vastness of God’s love for us and how despite difficulties, we know we serve a God who is with us.
