Earth Covenant Ministry

Never before has the biblical mandate seemed more critical than now for us to live in right relationship with the earth. As stewards of God’s good creation, we need to better equip us all to respond to God’s call to ecological justice and creation care.

Recycling

Highland Park, in addition to our single-stream recycling throughout the building, offers recycling receptacles in our recycling center on the 2nd floor for batteries, eye glasses, candles, ink cartridges, and cloth, and a styrofoam recycling bin in the back parking lot. Styrofoam needs to be dropped off for recycling – you are welcome to join us on our visits to the Austin Resource Center!

Adopt-a-Street

Highland Park has adopted a portion of Balcones Drive through Keep Austin Beautiful. We are responsible for cleaning up litter four times each year, which we schedule on two Saturdays and two Sunday mornings. Watch the calendar for the next clean-up day or contact Alana Mallard if you’d like to host one for your family.

Get Involved

The Earth Covenant Ministry always welcomes those who wish to…

  • prepare a varied curriculum of thought-provoking presentations and discussions including films, speakers, and book studies.
  • show our care for creation in the community by planning projects such as lake clean-ups and habitat restoration.
  • help Highland Park become a model of ecological responsibility.
  • manage our comprehensive recycling program.
  • maintain our church grounds as a natural habitat.
  • work with our Property Ministry to consider our impacts on the earth.
  • foster a sense of wonder through the planning of nature outings, hikes, and campouts.
